Great result for national speed skater
Nayland College year 9 student Holly Ward represented New Zealand at the Oceania Speed Skating Championships over Easter.
The championships were held in Timaru and Holly stayed there together with the New Zealand team. She had three days of competition and came out with an overall placing of 5th in the cadet girls category.
Her results for the individual events were:
- 1000m - 8th placing
- 500m time - 8th placing
- Time trial - 6th placing at a personal best time time of 32.429
- 5km - 4th placing
- 10km - 4th placing
- 21km - 4th placing
- Relay - 2nd placing - silver medal
Holly is an extremely committed athlete who has been training six days a week over the last three months. Holly's mother, Natasha van der Kallen, said the event was a chance to show her determination and strength. Understandably, Holly is extremely proud of her fantastic achievements and Nayland College congratulates her on these.
