Daniel Wilson —

A busy start to Term 3!

Dear parents/caregivers

This is our first full newsletter for Term 3, so I would like to welcome back all our students and families for what is already an incredibly busy term. I hope that students are settled back into their classes and learning routines. We have a focus on the SOAR value of 'success' this term. In line with this, and our focus on academic achievement, the first of fortnightly NCEA Update Reports will be emailed home today for senior students.

Earlier this week we held our Open Evening for prospective students and families. I would like to thank all students involved in making this event such a success. There was certainly a lot of positive feedback and attendees appreciated the opportunity to ask questions and find out more about the school. Next week we welcome Year 8 students for experience visits. If you attended the Open Evening you would have seen some of our Business Studies students selling their products. You can read more about both 'Supa Sauce' and 'Doctor Herb' in today’s newsletter.

Next Wednesday 5 August at 5:30pm in the hall we have our annual Subject Selection evening. I would encourage all senior students to attend and be fully informed about their choices moving forward. In addition, we are also holding careers interviews with all Year 11 students from next week, as we believe the choices into Year 12 are critical to future success.

Winter sport is now well and truly underway and it is great to see our rugby teams back out on the field. Our performing arts area are also working hard toward their Gala Concert on Monday 7 September at the Theatre Royal. Tickets will be available soon - watch this space! Our Manaaki Café is also back up and running this term, with Hospitality students offering staff and special visitors the opportunity to dine in style with a two course meal served at lunchtimes on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Ngā mihi nui
