Hip Hop team qualified to compete at world champs

Sarah Luton —

Congratulations to Grace Brydon and her fellow 'Unspoken' dance troupe members who have qualifed for the Hip Hop Unite World Championships in Óbidos, Portugal in October this year.

Year 13 student Grace Brydon has been dancing since primary school, trying a few different styles before settling on hip hop. She has been competing since 2017 and has been a member of the dance troupe 'Unspoken' for the last couple of years.

The original group of girls, some of whom are still part of 'Unspoken' today, including Grace, picked the name because for the most part, they were all too shy to talk to each other. Having been together for a few years now, the troupe have gone from strength to strength, winning multiple regional competitions and competing nationally.

When asked how she felt about qualifying for the Hip Hop Unite World Championships, Grace said, "I was excited, just proud of our achievement."

She is also excited about the opportunity to spend around a week in Óbidos, Portugal. 'Unspoken' are training regularly and will increase their training in the lead up to the big competition. In the meantime, the group of nine dancers are working hard to raise around $55,000 to get them and their coaches over to the event in October. You can support their fundraising efforts by grabbing a sausage when you see them out and about at Mitre 10 and local sports games, or by visiting their Givealittle page:
