Principal's Message

Daniel Wilson - Principal —

Dear parents and caregivers,

It has been a very busy start to term three, with many visitors to Nayland College from contributing schools, judges for the Prime Ministers Education Excellence Awards on site and, of course, our Open Evening on Tuesday 30 July. This is always a wonderful opportunity to showcase the best of Nayland College and I do thank all of the staff and students involved in hosting prospective parents and students. This year we offered two tours; one at 5:00pm which worked well for families with younger children and one at 7:00pm.  Both of the tours had good turnouts and we have received overwhelming positive feedback.  Our student guides and helpers were brilliant and we were able to a thank them with a pizza lunch on Friday!

Once again, our students and staff have been incredibly successful in their endeavours over the holiday period. Congratulations to Zarrie Wood who was half of the youngest ever duo to win the Women's Pairs at the national eight-ball championships in Christchurch. Also congratulations to the Andrews sisters, Shylah (Broadgreen Intermediate School) and Zariyah, (Nayland College) who will soon be heading to The Netherlands after qualifying for the world hip hop championships. A large number of students and staff were also involved in the historic victory by Nelson City Brass, winning the B Grade National Brass Band championship in Hamilton. There are many more tremendous achievements to read throughout this weeks newsletter.

As we move into the business end of the year I do encourage you to talk with your child(ren) about their learning and ensure that effective study habits are starting to be formed in the lead up to school derived grade exams later this term. As always, if you have any concerns please do not hesitate to contact the teacher to discuss further.

Ngā mihi nui
