Environmentalists ensure clean nest for all

On Friday 21st of June Nayland College NEST students worked with Heather Graham from Enviroschools to pick rubbish along the railway reserve park area next to Broadgreen Intermediate School.

NEST stands for the Nayland Environment Sustainability Team. The purpose of this clean-up was to reduce the amount of rubbish and make our environment a cleaner place for the community, as well as to improve our local Poorman's Stream ecosystem.

We filled four rubbish bags and collected 12 kg of rubbish. We then sorted it out so that the rubbish could be disposed of properly. There were around 30 aluminium cans and lots of soft plastic and recyclable materials.

We want to show people that the smallest of amount of rubbish can make a negative difference to our environment.

Next we want to put up notice boards to inform the users of the Railway Reserve walkway of the locations of where the rubbish bins are. This will make sure that people are informed and can then hopefully choose to hold on to their rubbish and put it into the next bin.
