Olympic sized achievements for our speed skaters

Nayland College students, Holly Ward and Zena Denton made outstanding achievements at the recent Oceania Speed Championships held in Australia during April holidays.

10 skaters were selected for 2019 Oceania Speed Championships and 8 travelled to compete.

Holly and Zena travelled together to represent New Zealand and experienced their first year in the Junior Ladies which is a difficult grade.

Holly Ward, in the Junior Ladies came away with one bronze individual medal and a silver in the relay. She also had a few 4th placings and also a 5th placing. She did incredibly well in the marathon coming away with a 4th placing, missing by a .01 second from 1st to 3rd placing.

Zena Denton, also in the Junior Ladies did really well and has worked very hard in the training season. The competition was hard but she stayed strong and competed in each race with a massive smile on her face.

Holly has also been invited to join the Junior Olympic training squad in the lead up to the 2022 Junior Summer Olympics.
