'Nelson Crime Family' steals audience

NayCol bands have been turning the stage area near the canteen into the school’s coolest new venue with a series of concerts. One such band was the “Nelson Crime Family”, although the only thing they appear to have stolen was their enraptured audience. Student Journalist Finn Kerby-Pinguet reports.

Day old chicks join the growing menagerie

Students taking Grow Your Own Business and/or Animal Behaviour and Welfare junior modules have welcomed the addition of some very cute and fluffy day-old chicks to add to their practical, hands-on learning. Many other students have also loved getting the chance to visit the little chicks.

10SUP - Westport Surf Camp 2021

Year 10 'Surf's Up' Westport surf camp

Earlier this term, the two Year 10 ‘Surf’s Up’ module classes travelled to Westport for an overnight surf camp. The surf camp provided an opportunity for students to finally experience surfing and put into practise some of the knowledge and skills that we have been learning about in class.

Manaaki Pop-Up Cafe a win-win for all

With senior hospitality students involved in all aspects of the process, Manaaki Pop-Up Cafe is a win-win for students gaining credits and staff (and students) enjoying delicious coffee and home baked treats. Nayland College is one of a small number of high schools around the country with a certified commercial kitchen, able to offer tertiary level practical hospitality and catering credits for students.
