Course: Photography (NCEA L2 - Via Volcanics)

Volcanics —

L2 Photography is a practical, hands on Photography course. Photography students will be selecting a genre of their choice (such as still life) and developing and clarifying their ideas through a photographic study.

 Students can communicate with the teacher through Zoom, Google Classrooms, email, and will receive feedback in a timely manner. Photography basics such as lighting, angle, shutter speed, aperture, ISO and focal length will be covered. Your teacher will guide you, provide a variety of resources and teaching materials using Google apps. Students will all have a shared digital portfolio in Google Docs for you to submit and share ongoing work with your teacher.

Topics covered include:

  • Historical and contemporary photography

  • Camera usage

  • Photo production and editing using Photoshop

  • Digital layout and printing

  • Presentation software

There are no prerequisites for Level 2 Photography; however, L1 Art is an advantage.

Requirements

Students should have access to a DSLR or suitable advanced smartphone. A tripod and access to a variety of lenses according to need would be advantageous. Learners must be able to access a computer during class time to interact with the class, access Photoshop and share ongoing work for class discussion. To complete the folio students will need access to a good quality photocopier, photo printer or local photography store. Commercial printing options will also be discussed.

Assessment

Assessment is through 2 - 4 credit internals completed digitally in Google Slides, shared with and printed by your teacher. You must also complete 1 - 12 credit externally examined 2 panel folio boards. The completed folio will be couriered to Opotiki College for marking and sent for external moderation.
