Course: Training, strategies, physical activity, cultural events, bio-mechanics of a skill and the impacts of these on lifelong well being. (NCEA L3 - Physical Education)

Lynda Walsh-Pasco —

Choose an area of well-being that you would like to improve over 10 weeks. Explore your physical activity to date and devise strategies for the future. This course requires students to meet a set criteria in a practical setting. They can select from the menu of many different settings. Research and explore the underlying reasons for childhood obesity. Analyse a skill of your choice using Bio-mechanics.

This course allows you to design your own training programme for 10 weeks, to apply your knowledge of training principles and the theory of how the body trains. This course gives you the opportunity to reflect on why you participate in physical activity and what strategies you can use in the future. Perform a physical activity to nationally developed performance standards. Explore the underlying reasons for childhood obesity.  Analyse a skill and explain the bio-mechanics underlying that skill.

Requirements

Physical Education 2.3 (91329) (required for standard 91499)

No prerequisite required for standard 91498

High level of practical prior knowledge in an activity. (required for standard 91501)

Health standards at level 2 or PE standards. (required for standard 91502)

Assessment

91499 -3.3 Evaluate the effectiveness of a performance improvement programme (Internal) (4 credits).

91498 Evaluate physical activity experiences to devise strategies for lifelong well-being (3.1) (Internal) (4 credits).

91501 - 3.4 Perform a physical activity to nationally developed performance standards (Internal) (4 credits).

91502 Examine a current physical activity event, trend or issue impacting on New Zealand society (3.5) (Internal) (4 credits).

91500 Analyse a physical skill performed by self or others (3.2) (Internal) (4 credits).

About the Teacher

My name is Mrs Walsh-Pasco and I have been teaching Level 3 PE for many years now. I love seeing the personal growth students make doing this course and then where they end up heading in their future. I love skiing and spending time sailing on Lake Wanaka.
