Course: Biophysical Principles, Leadership strategies and Physical activities in an applied setting. (NCEA L2 - Physical Education)

This course will cover basic anatomy, exercise physiology, bio-mechanics, skill learning and sports psychology. You will explore the Principles of training and how to apply them to a training programme. You will also learn Leadership strategies and applying them with students. Explore a practical application of prior skills to a choice of many physical activities or sports.

This course will cover basic anatomy, exercise physiology, bio-mechanics, skill learning and sports psychology. This knowledge underpins further study in this area as well as study of the human body. Students will apply this knowledge into a practical task that is planned and evaluated for assessment. This course will cover the Principles of Training and Methods of Training. Students will put these into action by designing and carrying out a training programme and evaluate the outcome. This course will require students to learn and understand the basic principles of leadership and require them to coach a group over a minimum of six weeks and evaluate the programme. This course requires students to meet a set criteria in a practical setting. They can select from the menu of several different settings.

Requirements;

Prior study at level 1 in these topics is a huge advantage plus prior knowledge about training programmes, prior experience coaching or working with groups or students (Physical Education 1.5 (91966) an advantage.) Purchase workbooks, (approx $30)and ESA Textbook.($38.00)

Assessments;

91328 - Demonstrate an understanding of how and why biophysical principles relate to the learning of physical skills. (2.2)(Internal assessment) (5 credits).

91329 - Demonstrate an understanding of the application of biophysical principles to training for physical activity.(2.3) (Internal assessment) (4 credits).

91332 - Evaluate leadership strategies that contribute to the effective functioning of a group.(2.6)(Internal assessment) (4 credits).

91330 - Perform a physical activity in an applied setting. (2.4) (Internal) (4 credits).

About the Teacher

My name is Mrs Walsh-Pasco and I have been teaching L2 PE for many years now. I love seeing the personal growth students make doing this course and then where they end up heading in their future. I love skiing and spending time sailing on Lake Wanaka.
