This course seeks to explore how artists make meaning. How does the choice of materials and the way they are worked with, impact on the meanings that are created?

Requirements

In Art History the participating students become a community with a shared interest in exploring and discussing ‘big’ questions. Anyone wanting to take this course will need to fully participate in ongoing online discussion, whether through social media type platforms or in the video conference. Discussion is a fundamental part of the course.

Assessment

Students will be assessed against a level 3 art history standard AS 91485 (Examine the impact of media and processes on art works)

About the Teacher

Philippa Mallinson has been teaching at Westland High School and online since 2015 and has also been teaching since 2010. She has a strong interest in how students can take control of their learning and work together as a community of art historians. She is also fascinated by the ways that culture and politics can impact on art.

Philippa lives on the beautiful West Coast in between Greymouth and Hokitika. She loves to travel, read and drink good coffee.
