Course: Introduction to Organic Chemistry (NCEA L2 Chemistry)

Participants will name and draw organic compounds and give an account of their physical and chemical properties. The organic compounds studied will be: alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, haloalkanes, primary amines, alcohols and carboxylic acids.
Requirements
It is not essential that the participant has access to the laboratory and chemicals for this module. Access to a set of molymods (to enable one to make models of organic molecules) would be beneficial.
Assessment
This is an externally assessed, NCEA Level 2 achievement standard, 91165 worth 4 credits.
About the Teacher
Maree Pullar has been teaching for thirty years, with the last eight years teaching online. She is registered as a teacher with Roxburgh Area School, where she teaches Science, Mathematics and Chemistry. Her major at the University of Otago was Chemistry. Mrs Pullar enjoys the outdoors; gardening, jogging, cycling, swimming and harriers. She follows the Highlanders and All Black rugby teams.
