Course: Music and Music technology (NCEA L1-3)

Sophia Bidwell —

This is a course for students wanting to follow the Creative Arts pathway and is totally individualised for the student.

When:

Full Year

Subject Area(s)

Music and Music Technology

NCEA L1-3

Students have the option of learning: Solo Performance, Group Performance (by agreement), Composition, Music Technology, Instrumentation and Arrangement, Research, and Music Works.

Requirements

Students wanting to take performance standards need to send me a video of their playing ability to assess appropriateness for the performance standards.

Students would need access to the following software options for music technology, instrumentation/arranging, and possibly composition:

Sibelius, Garageband Protools or:

Free Alternatives: Musescore (almost as good as Sibelius now), Presonus Studio One

Any school struggling to provide suitable technology should be in touch with me if considering enrolling students in this course s.bidwell@kaiapoi.school.nz

Students that choose performance standards would need to be able to commit to travelling for a NetNZ Music Festival. Costs to be covered by the travelling school.

Prerequisites

Students must have the confidence to perform their instrument/sing on stage if attempting performance standards. It would be beneficial if the student has had itinerant training on their instrument for at least 3 years but this is not essential depending on assessed ability.

Assessment

After initial discussion with students a pathway will be chosen of which the standards slot into. Students have the chance to complete each of the standards up to Level 3.

Students must have completed the prerequisites of each level per standard to move on.
