Course: Me and My Family (Beginners Korean - Korean Studies (Korean Language and Culture)

Beginners Korean

Students achieve understanding and use of familiar expressions and everyday vocabulary. They begin the year by interacting orally in a supported way, then during the year progress to understanding and constructing simple texts using their knowledge of Korean. They learn to describe aspects of their own background and immediate environment. Proficiency Descriptor - NZ curriculum Levels 1 -3(4)

This module will introduce students to the Korean language and culture. Students will be able to understand and use simple

personal description of themselves and others, be able to talk about their family and pets. They will also learn and consolidate to read and write the Hangeul script.

By the end of the course, you will be able to;

  • Get the gist of short spoken or written dialogues and texts, identifying the key details and responding appropriately

  • Interact in everyday conversations, using variations of learned words and phrases

  • Apply your knowledge of vocabulary and structures to write and manipulate learned phrases and sentences, using Hangeul

Requirements

This course is suitable for students beginning their study of the Korean language and culture. Also likely be able to read and write Hangeul.

Assessment

n this module, students are assessed at Level 1 and 2 of the New Zealand Curriculum. Students will complete an assessment at the end of the module in listening, reading , writing and Hangeul. They will also submit a Game Making in Family for their assessment.

About the Teacher

Sue Kim has been teaching Korean, Japanese, and Digital Technology in New Zealand for 14 years. She is originally from Busan, Korea, but has been living in New Zealand since 1996. Ms Kim is a Martial Arts expert and is experienced in Kung Fu, Tae-Kwon-Do, and is currently training in Karate on a regular basis as well as competing, judging and refereeing at National competitions. She also loves tramping, walking, and running.
