Design and visually communicate (DVC) skills learnt at level one will be enhanced and refined. This course allows creative design in an area to suit the student. This is the nuts and bolts of design and design presentation.

Problems or to be solved or refined could range from the creation of a living space to Fashion. Engineering, Architecture, Media , town planners etc. Students will use the design process and then visually communicate thought out, well considered, solutions via formal drawings, sketches or CAD. If you are looking to be a designer in whatever field DVC Skills is one sensible way to gain a sound think and solve approach.

This course is extremely relevant to anyone aspiring to progress to higher forms of learning like Tertiary, Trades, Manufacturing, Architecture, Engineering or being an inventor or innovator.

Skills and techniques will be taught/ learnt and then applied to finding practical solutions or answers . Understanding the design process and presentation techniques that include both formal and freehand drawing plus sketching, rendering, modeling, along with isometric, oblique para-line and third angle methods to illustrate your different solutions and the divergent possibilities.

Requirements

Self discipline and a determination to do well.

Drawing equipment. Pencils, instruments.

Access to textbooks on graphics or technical drawing. Design and Visual communication by Elizabeth McHugh or DVC by Paul Bourdot. - these are the best.

You will need to ensure that you are able to access YouTube over your school network.

A desire for success. Not be afraid of a bit of hard work!!

A clip on camera so that drawings can be better displayed rather than holding them up to the computer camera .

No restrictions but you will be advantaged if you have prior learning experience like level one DVC. Any experience with freehand art and colour will assist especially if you have the “think outside the square” approach.

Assessment

Summative assessments for internal standards will be at the end of each assignment as detailed in the introductory course booklet with formative assessments on a regular basis to keep students informed on their progress and giving them the opportunity to develop their work throughout the whole school year.
