After school: NetNZ and Tertiary Study

Former Cheviot Area School and NetNZ student gives an insight into the benefits

I attended Cheviot Area School, where I only had about five other students in my class-none of whom wanted to take Chemistry. So, I decided to take NCEA Chemistry in Level 2 and Level 3 through NetNZ with Mrs Pullar in Roxburgh, and I absolutely loved it!

Most people would think learning chemistry independently would be difficult, but it was actually really enjoyable! We had weekly online hangouts where I could connect face to face with my classmates and teacher for an hour, working through course material from the textbook, and discussing any questions.

I was super lucky to have Mrs Pullar as my teacher because she was so supportive, even from a distance. She would always answer questions by email and would never fail to upload a great set of resources for me to learn with.

I believe doing an online Chemistry course in high school set me up well for university study, where working independently and managing my own time is so important. I also passed one of the most failed papers at University, CHEM191, but I don't believe I would have been able to do so well without the opportunity of online learning through NetNZ, as well as my great teacher and classmates.
