Course: Standing up to Racism (NCEA L1 - History)

The course aims to show that when people stand together great things can happen. Links will be made to life in NZ and the students own lives.

In the 1950's and 1960's young people in the United States stood up and beat the violent and powerful racism that ruled their lives. This module examines the motives and perspectives of different groups during this time of dramatic change.

Requirements

Students will require the standard text book and a willingness to engage in this exciting and dramatic moment in time.

Assessment

The module will be assessed with an Internal Assessment (AS 91004). Students will also be able to use the content in one of the end of year External Examinations (91005). This is optional.

About the Teacher

Garry Brittenden has been back teaching for 11 years after running a tourism venture for 18 years. He loves reading, writing, cooking, fishing, diving, travelling and cricket.
