About the Teacher

Mrs Howden has been teaching at Waitaki Girls High School for 11 years as senior Chemistry and junior Science teacher. When the opportunity to add senior Agriculture into the mix came up she didn't hesitate to take it. As a registered pharmacist, before teaching, she ran her own community pharmacy. As senior Ag / Hort has elements such as healthy food sources, the business of farming, science of genetics and reproduction and environmental concerns included in the criteria it covers many areas that she is passionate about. One of her interests is growing healthier food as we will need to feed more people with less land so need to be more efficacious in this respect.Outside of school Mrs Howden and her husband have an orchard, mainly heritage variety apples (not for eating) and are involved in old time and social sequence dancing (a little different from ballroom dancing).
