Introduction to Japanese - Me and My Family

The Beginners Japanese course aims to :
Give students opportunities to gain a positive and enjoyable experience of learning a new language and culture;
Develop students’ ability to understand and communicate in simple Japanese in speaking, listening, reading and writing.
Give students knowledge and appreciation of Japan, of its country, its people, their way of life and their values.

This module will follow on from Semester 1 and will allow students to give a simple personal description of themselves and others, be able to talk about their family and pets and talk about what sports they play.
Students will be working in the Hiragana script for this module.

Requirements

Students will need to have completed Beginners Japanese Semester 1 or have equivalent prior knowledge. They will also need to be able to read and write the 46 Hiragana characters.
Students will also ideally have an interest in the Japanese language and culture and a willingness to participate fully in our online community.

Assessment

In this semester, students are assessed at Levels 2 and 3 of the New Zealand Curriculum. Students will complete an assessment at the end of the module in listening, reading and writing. The assessment will be completed in Hiragana. Students will also submit a speaking assessment based on their family.

About the Teacher

Rebecca Wilson has been teaching Japanese and Mathematics for the past 18 years. She is currently the Head of Languages at Fiordland College in Te Anau. Rebecca is passionate about the Japanese culture and language and loves sharing this with her students.
