Course: Statistics (via FarNet)

FarNet —

This is a level 2 mathematics course designed to lead students into level 3 Statistics.

Students must achieve AS91267 (apply probability methods in solving problems) to be eligible for level 3 statistics. The course is a 21 credit course with 1 externally assessed standards. Students receive 2 hours per week of online tuition and are expected to complete a further 2 hours of independent study.

Topics covered include:

  1. Co-ordinate Geometry

  2. Graphs

  3. Systems of Equations

  4. Probability

  5. Trigonometry

  6. Networks

  7. Statistical Inference


Requirements

Students must have a sound knowledge of basic numeracy skills.

Textbook: Students will need a Walker Maths workbook for 3 of the 7 standards.

Calculator: A graphics calculator eg Casio FX 9750GII (approx $100)

Assessment

Level 2 Mathematics will be assessed through 7 achievement standards.

(6 internals with a total of 17 credits and 1 external worth a total of 4 credits).

There will also be assignments, tests and school examinations throughout the year.
