Report from the Chair

NetNZ Board Chair, Michael Campbell, summarises the year from a board perspective

2021 has been a challenging year for NETNZ, surprisingly not due to Covid however we now sit in a very positive position because of the work undertaken last year.

The year began with a proposal from the Ministry of Education to support the VLNC to establish a single point of entry for students wanting to study with any of the three entities involved, OLC, VLN Primary and NETNZ. The proposal was felt to be initially very positive as it came with funding to help support the establishment however it became apparent that there were some sticking points in gaining agreement from all three parties. Due to this the Ministry of Education has reformatted the agreement and all three parties appear positive with the new agreement.

The work undertaken by Darren, Ken, Trevor and Lynda and all the teachers over the years has positioned NETNZ to demonstrate to the Ministry that NETNZ deserves the support the Ministry is offering. Theis financial support will assist NETNZ increase its offering to students and schools.

NETNZ has also further developed “Journey”, its online portal such that it is now operating and offering students and teachers the opportunity to promote courses throughout the Motu. This is due in no small part to Ken and his leadership of this project.

Navigating 2021 would not have been possible for the board without the sterling efforts of the board members and I’d like to thank them again for the contribution to the mahi of NETNZ, ka pai.

While NETNZ ended the year with a small deficit this was due to investment in Journey and we believe that with the support of the Ministry and the new initiatives being worked on NETNZ is in an excellent position for the future.
