Students will study the narrative conventions of a television series.

Students work towards AS 91249 (internal), AS 91255 (internal) and AS 91248 (external) in this Semester and can gain seven credits.

Students will study the narrative conventions of a television series. They will explore the concept of target audiences, ratings and how the two go together. The semester finishes with an opportunity to gain University Entrance Writing Credits, by producing a written media text of their own.

Requirements

Students should have a sound ability in reading and writing. There is a need to be able to create solid paragraphs.

Assessment

AS 91249 Demonstrate understanding of narrative in media texts, internal, four credits

AS 91255 Write developed media text for a specific target audience (UE writing) internal, three credits

AS 91248 Demonstrate understanding of the relationship between a media product and its audience (UE reading and writing) external, three credits

About the Teacher

Sharee Knapp has been teaching for thirteen years; since 2016 she has taught an online Media Studies class through NetNZ. She enjoys gardening, sewing, reading and spending time with her family. She also teaches English at Menzies College in Southland. Her family lives on a small farm on the edge of the Catlins.
