Course: Beginners Japanese 1 - My Jikoshoukai (Y 7-13 - Japanese)

The Beginners Japanese course aims to :
Give students opportunities to gain a positive and enjoyable experience of learning a new language and culture;
Develop students’ ability to understand and communicate in simple Japanese in speaking, listening, reading and writing.
Give students knowledge and appreciation of Japan, of its country, its people, their way of life and their values.

This module will introduce students to the Japanese language and culture. Students will be able to understand and use simple language to greet and farewell someone and respond accordingly and to provide simple personal details in the form of a self introduction. They will also learn to read and write the Hiragana script.

Requirements

This course is suitable for students beginning their study of the Japanese language. Students will ideally have an interest in the Japanese language and culture and a willingness to participate fully in our online community.

Assessment

In this semester, students are assessed at Level 1 of the New Zealand Curriculum. Students will complete an assessment at the end of the module in listening, reading , writing and Hiragana. They will also submit a self-introduction for their speaking assessment.

About the Teacher

Rebecca Wilson has been teaching Japanese and Mathematics for the past 18 years. She is currently the Head of Languages at Fiordland College in Te Anau.
Rebecca is passionate about the Japanese culture and language and loves sharing this with her students.
