New Brighton Junior Surf 2024
We follow the New Zealand Surf Lifesaving Junior Surf program. The program is designed to nurture children’s confidence, deepen their understanding of beach and coastal environments, and enhance their skills in and around the water. Other key benefits include development of social skills, making friends and wellbeing.
A typical junior surf session consists of:
- Briefing on the morning's activities
- A warm-up on the beach as a team
- Split into age groups / ability levels to ensure that everyone gets the best experience possible.
- Beach activities (sprints/relays and beach flags)
- Water activities (board/surf skills, water confidence and awareness)
Parents are most welcome to join in as well! Safety wise, we have plenty of lifeguards involved in this session.
Once 12pm approaches we encourage everyone to hand in their hi-vis vests, sign out of our swim register, get changed, and grab a sausage off the bbq.
If you are interested, or know someone who is interested, in coming to one of our sessions just turn up on the day!
New Zealand Junior Surf Review Completed
Surf Lifesaving New Zealand has just completed a review of the junior surf program.

Parent / Caregiver Help
Help is always welcomed.
Some of the things that we need some help with this season include:
- Health and Safety app completion
- Taking rashies home to rinse
- Set up of gear on the beach
- Collection/wash down of gear off the beach
- Warm up activities
- Water safety/human marker buoys
- BBQ

The cost
2023/2024 Summer Season fees (U14 years)
- Single child $70
- Second child (same family) $40
- Children under 7 (6 years & under 1 Nov 2023) $20
How to pay
You can pay your subs with cash, EFTPOS on club days or you can choose to pay your subs by internet banking.
