NZCER National Survey of Schools turns 35!
It has been 35 years since NZCER started a 3-yearly Uiuinga ā-Motu o ngā Kura, National Survey of Schools. Over the years, these surveys have provided timely and valuable insights into what is happening in our schools.
For the 2024 surveys of primary schools, NZCER took on feedback from principals, teachers and other stakeholders to make sure the survey remains engaging and focused on what matters most to schools. That's why this year's survey will be different!
The survey is now much shorter
Nobody likes to spend a long time doing a survey, something that came through in the feedback. The survey should now take only15 minutes to complete online.
Not all schools will get a survey, as we’re taking a sampling approach. There’s one survey for principals, and another for teachers. If you hear from us, we would love for you to complete the survey. If you do, you can:
Receive an Individualised School Summary
Win a $200 voucher (there are five for principals, and five for teachers)
Have your voice heard in the national education conversation
All information provided will be treated confidentially, with no individuals or schools being identifiable in the public reports. Participation is completely optional, but we highly value your input!

Teacher Scholarships for 2025
Applications closing November 15
New Zealand has an estimated 45,000 gifted students. How well do we cater for them nationally and as individual schools? Could your school benefit from some support with this?
The award-winning and NZQA- recognised Certificate of Effective Practice in Gifted Education, established 2006, has a distinguished record in this field nationally and internationally and is currently offering ten scholarships to support teachers from any level of schooling.
Participating teachers develop an in-depth understanding of giftedness and its implications for the learner, develop their ability to identify such students, and are then individually mentored as they learn a range of highly practical high-interest skills for classroom use. Schools will be supported in reviewing and improving their school-wide provision.
This is a one-off opportunity: apply now!
For full details and an application form, please email giftedreach@aotearoagifted.nz.
