A Roadmap to Sustainable Leadership

NZPF’s map of 10 components for a leadership strategy has been presented to the Minister of Education, Ministry of Education, Sector Partners and our Regional Presidents. The ten components include sustainability, recruitment and retention, system leadership - aspiring to experienced principals, well-being and work conditions, strategic workforce development, PD (Gold Star Standard), private and public PLD, sector supported resources, such as principals’ associations, websites, publications and leadership advisors, professional insights, innovation, and culturally responsive programmes. NZPF is fully committed to progressing each component. We are also discussing further research in partnership with NZCER to examine sustainable working models of good school leadership practice, Principal PLD and pathways from aspiring to experienced principalship that exist both here and overseas.

The overarching objective of this work is: establishing a Principal Leadership Strategy and Leadership Framework, including resources to meet the above leadership components, that would be encompassed in a Principal Leadership Centre. Aotearoa New Zealand is one of the few jurisdictions globally without a dedicated Principal Leadership Strategy or Centre for Positional Leadership.
