GLOBAL PRINCIPAL LEADERSHIP CONNECTIONS

NZPF is a member of the International Confederation of Principals (ICP). ICP is dedicated to the development, support and promotion of school leadership. The ICP represents over 135,000 school leaders across five continents, 56 countries and, as such, commands a unique global position as a major voice for school education. The ICP is non-political and non-sectarian.

The ICP constitution has seven main goals, including fostering closer relationships between school leaders of all nations; promoting the image and professionalism of school leaders; promoting the rights and responsibilities of school leaders, and the interests of the education profession, across all races and cultures. This aligns well with the NZPF kaupapa.

Past NZPF presidents have been active members of this confederation, attending conferences, meetings and delivering presentations. Our presence in the global educators’ network saw NZPF win the bid to host the ICP Convention in 2026.

We acknowledge the importance of fostering and strengthening our international relationships with other countries’ school leader associations. We have a strong relationship with the Australian Primary Principals’ Association, and this year have welcomed the opportunity to build relationships with Canadian principals through the Ontario Principals’ Council (OPC).

Our Global connections continue to be nurtured and fostered. We have more similarities than differences and thus we are learning from each other. Key learnings on charter and partnership schools, improvement and accountability processes, national testing and equity initiatives are just a few of the ongoing discussions. Along with our own NZ research and evidence based practice, NZPF is well informed to offer solutions and dismiss failing programs.
