Volleyball Community - Father and Daughter Duo Instil Belief.
After a very successful season, coaches Andy and Taupou reflect on their season.
Right from the start of the year Andy said “ We are going back to basics and aiming to peak at Regionals and Nationals”. Using the season as a stepping block we tried to implement new and refined techniques. At Regionals we placed 5th out of 12 teams. Regionals were a good way to gauge where the team's skill levels were at and the team had fun while doing it. Nationals were up next, this being the first volleyball nationals that the team has attended. We got to compete against schools from all over New Zealand. We placed 5th out of 16 teams in our division. Overall Term 1 volleyball went well for the boys.
Andy & Taupou -Coaches
Father - daughter duo, Taupou and Andy Tauafiafi, step up as coaches for the Senior A Boys' Volleyball Team at Newlands College for the 2023/2024 season. Andy's son, Tatau, being on the team played a role in their decision along with a desire to give back to the community and impart valuable life skills through sports. Their coaching philosophy emphasises individual challenges, teamwork, resilience, and personal growth, aiming to instil a belief that anything is achievable with determination. Witnessing the students’ development and self-confidence through volleyball proves immensely rewarding for the dedicated coaches.
Thanks also to Api (Sports Co-ordinator) and Mr Jip who worked thoughout the season to co-ordinate games and tournaments.
