Kia ora koutou, talofa lava, mālō a lelei E mihi manahau ana ki a koutou
Term 3 seems to go very quickly every year but this year in particular! We have had a wonderful start to the term with a fabulous Year 12 Careers day this week where dedicated volunteers gave their time to talk about employment opportunities that are not always on the radar of our learners. There was a great range of people (and a very calm ‘drug’ dog) who talked about what their jobs are. We are enjoying our learning and with results coming back from a variety of assessments over the coming weeks, a key focus turns towards those larger projects and deadlines for our senior learners.
Sport continues to be a highlight and a number of our teams and individuals are heading quickly towards semi-finals and finals. The focus shifts then towards national tournaments and I am very much looking forward to traveling around the country supporting our teams.
Kurtis Imrie attended Newlands College 10 years ago and we wish him well at the Olympics as he races in the kayaking sprints. His first heats are on Tuesday. Kurtis has viewed the clip and sent me a message that he appreciated the gesture and it was special to receive it - ‘GO KURTIS’.
We are continuing to review our vision and strategic plan across all areas of the school. The photo is our Year 11 form-representatives hard at work considering what they view to be the key priorities for the future. If you have any thoughts, suggestions or ponderings, please email me at principal@newlands.school.nz
Ngā mihi nui
