On Wednesday afternoon, our first group of kaihoe (paddlers) set off with their kaiako from Ora Toa Mauriora. After some land-based kōrero about waka tīkanga, they launched into the Onepoto arm of Te Awarua o Porirua. Lauren Kelly set the pace in the stroke seat and Lyric and Eli shared the responsibilities of calling the stroke changes. We are very grateful to be able to learn from kaiako Andy Hanara and Nohorua Ropata, who have a wealth of waka knowledge and experience to share. Our kaihoe will be out every Wednesday afternoon this term, learning lessons from the waka that they can apply to their own decision-making and wellbeing. Ki te hoe!
