North Island Secondary School Equestrian Championship

Last week four Year 9 girls and their parents took their horses to compete in the North Island Secondary School Equestrian Championship in Taupo. This event was the 2nd largest equestrian event in NZ after Horse of the Year Show.  It took a huge amount of hard work, preparation, fundraising and organising including a 6 hour float trip to get there. The girls are all very grateful to the school for allowing them to participate, to the organisers and sponsors of the event, Beard Brothers who support the team, the team coach Willowridge Ali Hilton and of course their parents

NISS took place over 4 days and the team competed in several different equestrian disciplines to finish 11th place out of 90 teams – a huge achievement and tribute to their hard work and consistent performance.  Individually all of the girls came away with the placings below and the team also came 3rd in Competitive Trail Riding (CTR) out of 48 teams.

CTR – 1st Phoebe Courtney-Topp on Good as Gold (Biscuit); 3rd Charlie Dimond on Glencorran DC (DC)

Arena Eventing 80cm Horse – 3rd Rae Lake on Azabeat (Squid)

Horse 80-90cm Show Jumping (A2) – 4th Alanah Leatham on Pasedena (Punky)

Horse 80-90cm Show Hunter – 5th Rae Lake on Azabeat (Squid)

There were also prizes for year groups and the girls achieved the following results for Best Performed Riders  Year 9/10 out of 184 – Charlie Dimond (23); Phoebe Courtney-Topp (41); Rae Lake (68), Alanah Leatham (75). What a fantastic set of results.
