WRISSA Boys Hockey tournament

Jared Simons —

Mouth guards, shin pads and hockey sticks were packed in our bags and we were excited to get to the National Hockey Stadium.

It was a long time coming, the WRISSA Boys Hockey tournament was finally happening on 25th July. The sun was shining and we were off in the Newlands Intermediate van. We had 10 boys in the team with Ms Schmid looking after us for the day. Mouth guards, shin pads and hockey sticks were packed in our bags and we were excited to get to the National Hockey Stadium.

Up first was Tawa Intermediate. All of us were a bit nervous because we hadn’t played much together, some of us, not at all! We were close with Tawa the whole way until the last 3 minutes. Sadly, we lost 2-1. Next was Fergusson, where we hit our stride and won comfortably. There was a buzz amongst us and we were ready to take on Naenae. It was a very close game and ended up being a draw. Last game in our pool was EBIS. We won and we were really happy with ourselves. Thinking that we had done enough to get into the finals, we were disappointed to find out we had only JUST missed out.

It didn’t stop us having an awesome day out. We improved in every game we played and all of us had a great day out. The cafe had the best food too!
