Water, Water, Everywhere – But not Allowed to Drink
On Wednesday in Week 9, Room 6 spent the morning doing cool science experiments with water, with some of us getting very wet!
We found out a lot of interesting things about water and what it can do. As we went outside to the courtyard, we were all hit with the cold chilly air, but we were still very excited about the experiments. We brought our phones out so we could record and take photos of what happened.
We watched two big chunks of ice dumped into a big bucket of cold water but before that, we got to hold them and pass them around to other people for a turn. We did 5 excellent water experiments, two out of five of them didn’t work for our group. but some groups managed to do all 5 successfully. One of my favourites was definitely melting ice with salt, after putting a few drops of blue food colouring on the ice. It completely stained my fingers! Some of the experiments were fun and exciting but some didn’t work which was a bit of a disappointment. While we were doing an experiment with balloons, we filled the balloon up with water, tied it up and grabbed a pin. We popped the balloon with the pin, and we all got soaking wet! Surprisingly, when we replayed a video of the experiment, we saw the water kept the shape of the balloon after the balloon popped.
After morning tea, we continued doing the experiments but this time we had milk, a bowl, food colourings, and dish soap. We poured the milk into the bowl and added 2 or more food colouring into the milk and then added dish soap. We waited for a while to see what happened and it made a pretty spiral of the food colouring but some of them turned out a little bit strange. Overall, we had a wonderful and exciting day doing all the fun and cool experiments.
