Newlands Intermediate Predator Free
Here at Newlands Intermediate we have a dedicated team of environmentalists committed to bringing our native wildlife back.
This term, the Newlands Intermediate School trapping team has been working hard on reducing the population of rats and hedgehogs in the community. As we try to protect our native ecosystem, we move one step closer to a predator free Aotearoa.
We only check our traps on Mondays and Fridays so we don’t leave too much human smell on them. Trap.NZ, which is a very useful trapping app, allows us to record the number of traps, chew cards, and any animal we’ve caught with our traps. We’ve also paired up with Predator Free Newlands to improve the NIS trapping system. We would like more students to be aware of this ratty situation. You can follow our progress here.
