Student Review: Jungle Book Reimagined
St James theatre presents… An Akram Khan company production… Jungle Book Reimagined Centuries old tale told with a twist
The Jungle book is one of the most popular stories that have ever been written. It has all the components for a good story. Our school was lucky enough to get 20 tickets at a discounted price to see the Jungle book reimagined show put on in St James Theatre on 24th of February. Akram Khan had used contemporary dance theatre to create a magical retelling of the jungle book through the eyes of a climate refugee.
In the storyline, Mowgli’s family was taken away from him. He also finds himself in a jungle with all the familiar characters like Baloo, Bagira, the wolves and even the mighty Kaa. A very beautiful, compelling and vital piece of storytelling. All the dancing was so mesmerising with graceful and bold movements. The performance had state of the art projection, funny voiceover that made us all laugh, and powerful soundtrack that brought the acts to life.
As the show came to an end, we were trying to think how Mowgli would survive until he met the humans over the treacherous waves. Definitely worth our Saturday night!
