NIS Volleyball
A few weeks ago our Newlands Intermediate volleyball teams went to a tournament at the Akau Tangi Sports Centre.
Each team had seven players and one reserve. We had been training for this tournament since term 2. The teams went in separate vehicles, the boys went in the van and the girls went in Silas (Paige's dads) car. When we arrived, we went in and started practising our serves and we did a warmup called pepper which is where you try to keep the ball in the air.
In between each game there was only a little time to have breaks. We had about one break where we didn't have to play at all and we got to watch all the other games from the top. Both the boys and girls are proud of how they played at this tournament as both made it to the quarterfinals and got fifth.
This tournament was heaps of fun and we all really enjoyed it. For the girls we played four pool games and won three which meant we were second in our pool. The boys won all their pool games but had a close loss to Tawa in the quarters who went on to win it.
We would like to say a big thank you to Mr Turner and Silas for helping our teams train to be even better.
