Return to our Library
"If you only read the books that everyone else is reading, you can only think what everyone else is thinking."
"Books just aren't made of words... they are also filled with places to visit and people to meet. " I am here with Mrs Heather Taylor who is our school librarian. She is going to share with us her excitement and enthusiasm on her return to one of her happy places!
Q: How does it feel returning to your original home?
A: After 3 and a half years of having our library in temporary homes or places around the school, we've come back to where we began. I love the fact that I am right here with the students being available to chat and help. Along with Megan Gill who is our Friday librarian, we are really enjoying rebuilding and creating this space.
Q: What's the favourite part of your job?
A: My passion is helping students to choose books to read, especially those who haven't found the right story or book for them. It makes me feel so good to be able to recommend other books and I'll be thinking about them reading the books, wondering if they are enjoying it and waiting for them to come back and share with me what they thought.
Q: Share with us the bespoke nature of your surroundings. I notice that you have quotes, covers and different media, different shelving and quirky elements...
A: I love creating different spaces of interest and setting up displays of a topical nature. I want the library to be a place where students want to come, not have to come. I try to appeal to tweens and what's happening for them in their lives. I really enjoy paper craft and creating. I love that my hobby can be transformed into my profession.
