As many of you may know, Newlands Intermediate hosted its annual Athletics Day on 18.2.22. Athletics included High Jump, Tug of war, and the 100 - 200 metre sprints. Newlands Intermediate School used this event to find the most capable athlete to represent Newlands Intermediate School at the Northern Zone Athletics.

Many talented athletes were intent on qualifying for the Northern Zone Athletics, which will take place near the end of the year. The events were demanding; pushing each athlete to the limit of their abilities.

All the syndicates (classroom groups) in the school instructed their students to wear their designated ‘Syndicate Colours’. Nga Wawata wore orange, Moemoea wore green, Te Ao Marama wore purple, and Tumanako wore yellow. When these syndicates participated in Tug of War, the atmosphere was filled with a competitive spirit. Each syndicate was striving to pull harder each time they stepped onto the designated selected area.

Overall, the positive and competitive spirit brought out the best in everyone.
