Pride at Newlands Intermediate

Tabby U and Josie from Room 13 - June 16, 2022

If Harry Potter taught us anything, it's that no one should live in a closet.

On Monday, Newlands Intermediate celebrated Pride Week. That meant decorating the syndicates in Pride colours until it was a colourful wonderland that is inclusive and accepting. We were also very fortunate to have the Urquhart family and ERG Recruitment donate a progressive Pride flag to fly with the New Zealand flag as a symbol of the start of Pride week.

We had a bake sale on Wednesday, that included loads of rainbow cookies, cupcakes, and lollies. After all that selling and eating we managed to raise $630. The money is going to an organisation called Inside Out that supports health and wellbeing in schools and in communities for people that identify as LGBTQIA+.

We are very pleased with how this week went and it was very exciting to see how many people enjoy and celebrate this time of the month!
