My Experience in Textiles

Mark Asistol —

I don't think we would ever learn the things we learned without textiles.

As a Year 8 in P1, I was able to be the first class to do Textiles, along with other Year 8 boys and girls.

At first, around the start of the year, I was sad to see DigiTech go. I felt that way, until I started actually doing the new Tech. As soon as we started, we learned how to do various stitches such as the running stitch, the backwards stitch, and the blanket stitch.

Ms. Mazur was an excellent teacher when it came to helping us learn how to stitch, use the sewing machine and make certain things. In our second session, we learned how to make circle-shaped plushies. The Year 8s were able to get creative with their designs and there were lots that looked amazing! There was plenty of the material to use, probably enough to last the entire year. Though some of us weren’t able to finish ours, including mine, we were able to experience something new. I don't think we would ever learn the things we learned without textiles.

As for DigiTech, it is still here, but is not under the term Tech. Students of NIS will still have Digi as a part of their curriculum. With textiles, I still haven’t done the last 2 sessions but I will do these around the end of Term 1.

Textiles is a wonderful class, with an amazing teacher, that teaches you a few lifetime skills that you will use for years to come. I hope that our students next year will have this experience too!
