Netball
On Wednesday the 14th of June, Newlands Intermediate welcomed the top netball teams from Raroa and Tawa to come join the top netball team from Newlands for their training. We all meet up at Newlands Intermediates hall to have a talk with Netball Smart about our health and wellbeing, while being away on tournament. We started off by sitting down and doing a little quiz about our health, wellbeing, and preventing injuries. We worked together as a team on each question to decide if the answer was either 1, 2, 3, or 4. Our team did very well and got all the questions right.
After we completed the quiz we talked about what we should and shouldn't do in a warm up. Then we all showed our warm ups to Netball Smart and then they gave us their feedback and told us what they think we should work on and what they think we should change. One of the things they thought everybody could work on, was that we all needed to start slower and then slowly work our way up in speed. We also learnt the difference between a normal warm up and a power warm up. Then they showed us what a power warm up is used for and how it is useful.
The reason we all had to attend this meeting/training session is because our netball team, Newlands Int Kauri, is going to represent our school at the 2023 NZAIMS games. Netball New Zealand requires all netball competitors to have completed the Netball Smart course. NZAIMS games is an awesome sporting event held in Tauranga each year. It caters for 23 different sporting codes and about 11,500 11-13 year olds competitors.
Towards the end of the meeting Tawa had to leave because they went to a college open day. After they left we played a game of Netby against Raroa so we could work on our landing and how to land in a way that is not going to injure us. The game was successful and by the end of the game our landing had improved a lot.
A special thanks to Whaea Lena, Netball Smart, and all the coaches that made this day possible and enjoyable.
