Pōwhiri at Ngā Hau e Whā o Paparārangi
On Monday 13th of February, 10 students were chosen to support Ngā Hau e Whā o Paparārangi Marae with a pōwhiri for Te Herenga Waka (Victoria University) Law Faculty. We got there early and the girls helped set up the tables, attempting to make the food look presentable.
When they started to arrive, the boys went outside to watch the wero being performed by Jessica-Lee’s whānau, then the karanga began. We welcomed them into the marae, and started off with a Whaikōrero. Then we sang the waiata, Nei rā and then the manuhiri Kaikōrero spoke and they responded back with Tutira mai ngā iwi. Soon after, our Kaikōrero (Matua Joe) spoke again. Then we blessed the kai in order to eat, and finished off our lovely visit with a waiata. We would like to thank Whaea Lena for this great experience and hope to do it again soon.
