Specialist Teaching

Food Technology

Food is part of our tech rotations, all students spend 5 days working in this specialist area each year. Food tech is the most popular part of our tech programme. Our year 7s spend the year learning the basics of good cooking and baking, as well the practice of good kitchen hygiene. Our year 8s use the skills learnt in year 7 to develop and produce their own creations.

Hard Materials Technology

Hard Materials is part of our tech rotations, all students spend 5 days working in this specialist area each year. In Hard Materials students have had the opportunity to learn and use the many tools in the hard tech room safely and efficiently. They learn to conceptualise, plan, communicate and transform our ideas into an object, while also learning to manipulate materials.

Textiles Technology

Textiles is part of our tech rotations, all students spend 5 days working in this specialist area each year. In textiles, students learn basic skills sewing and repair skills. They learn how to cut fabric, thread and use sewing machines. Students learn to be independently creative and express themselves in their personal projects.

Digital Technology

All students regularly attend multiple digital technology sessions each term, and this area is a firm favourite with our students. Students learn to use the many software programmes available in the Digi Room, experiment with aspects of programming and robotics, print their own 3D designs and explore ways to develop new skills in Digi Tech.

Visual Art

Visual art is part of our tech rotations, all students spend 5 days working in this specialist area each year. Students develop their creativity and explore different art techniques. Students are focusing on building confidence with a range of practical skills, and are scaffolded on how to problem solve independently when faced with challenges.

Creative Arts

Creatives Arts includes dance, drama, music, film and photography. All students have creative arts classes each term. Over their time at intermediate, all students will have multiple experiences in each art form. Our focus is on building confidence and resilience, developing creative and critical thinking and understanding and appreciating the role of the arts in our lives.

Te Reo Māori

At our Kura all students learn Te Reo Māori as part of our classroom programme, this is supported every couple of weeks with a specialist session focusing on Te Reo and Tikanaga. Students can opt into an Extension Te Reo Māori class that meets each week.
