St Brigid's Kapa Haka Festival
On the 24th of September, Newlands Intermediate participated in the St Brigids Kapa Haka Festival.
This was held at Onslow College. We had been practicing our bracket for a few weeks leading up to this performance. We were all really excited because the festival has not been able to take place since 2019. This was of course because of the COVID#19 pandemic!
There was a pōwhiri at 8:30am at Onslow College to invite us into their hall. The first performance was Amesbury School since they were hosting the event. All the schools performing that day each got a room that they could all get ready in.
Newlands Intermediate kapa haka students met at 9:30am in our assigned room to get ready and changed for our performance. We had to wait a while to go on stage because they were running a bit late so we ended up going on stage at around midday.
Once we got on stage it was amazing, many people were there to watch our performance. We went through our 15 minute bracket and it was amazing, everyone had a big smile on their face and was singing really loud. Once our performance was finished we all went back to our room and went and got changed back into our clothes. After we had gotten changed we could go home or we could stay to watch the other schools perform.
Our performance was really good and we showed how good Newlands Intermediate is at kapa haka. We were all very proud, thankful, and happy that we had done a really good job of showcasing our awesome school.
