From the Principal
We are pleased to see the end of winter and the illness it brings. On a couple of occasions we have had over 100 students away with colds and flu this term.
Despite this, the term has gone quickly and smoothly. Term 3 is traditionally the term of sport and cultural events.
We try very hard to particpate in every Inter-Intermediate event and this term was no exception. We had teams in basketball, netball, table tennis, volleyball, rugby and the regional cross country.
AIMS Games was a major focus also with 2 cross country teams, a netball and a basketball team competing. Our cross country year 7 girls team won a silver medal which is an outstanding achievement in this highly competitive national tournament. Our netball and basketball teams also performed very well. The nature of the draw and scoring saw these teams finish out of the top 10 in their divisions but only by a whisker. I was lucky to stay with the teams for a couple of days and was impressed with the attitude, commitment, skill level and dispositions of all our students.
Thank you to the teachers and the whanau that supported our students - behind every competing team lies another great team!
This term saw some good results in NIWA Science Fair, some great achievements at DanceNZmade, and top 10 placings at the Wellington Mathswell competition.
Last weekend our Kapahaka performed at the St Brigids Kapa Haka Festival and early next term our poly club and kapa haka take part in the Inter-Intermediate events.
There are mid-term board elections coming up with 2 positions available. Look out for the nominations and voting information.
Nearly all our asbestos cladding will be removed these holidays. Please stay of the school buildings and the worksites as this important work is completed. And let's hope for fine, still weather!
We bid farewell this term to Erenna Witty and Brooke Sutherland who have both resigned from their part-time positions here after many years of teaching at our school. We wish them both well with their young families.
Enjoy some quiet time with your children over the holiday break. We look forward to seeing everyone back next term.
Nga mihi nui
