AIMS Cross Country 2022

Shriya Dalvi & Brooke Hankinson —

Travelling to Tauranga to compete in the 2022 NZ AIMS Games was an opportunity of a lifetime.

Our two girls only Cross Country teams had been training Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in the hope to win some medals. Knowing that there were over 10,000 competitors, and 320 schools involved in this big day, we felt extremely overwhelmed but excited.

Over the 3 days in Tauranga we watched and competed in 3 main events. The year 7’s girls competed in a 3km race with hills and hurdles; the year 8’s competed in the same race shortly after and then six of the ten runners then competed in the 6km mixed relay- what set us apart was that we were a GIRLS ONLY team. It was extremely tiring, but we felt exhilarated afterwards.

We are so proud of our achievements with the Year 7 girls coming home with a well earned silver medal, and the year 8 girls placing 11th with 22 other teams.
