‘Our Places’’ Inquiry
This term our syndicate has been exploring our local community as a part of our inquiry. For our inquiry, we are learning about our places and our local landmarks to get a better understanding about Newlands.
We started the term by creating pamphlets about Newlands using our current knowledge about our community and its history. We are now learning more about the rich history of Newlands to understand more about the significance of our suburb. We have been researching the differences between the past and present community in Newlands as well as our local landmarks.
We have been on a couple of walks around our community. The first walk that we did took us to the Red Beech Avenue Playground in Woodridge. We walked up the hill next to the playground and observed the beautiful view of the sea and nature combined as one. The second walk that we went on took us past New World where we saw the Wahine Anchor. We enjoyed the walks because, although they were a bit tiring, they were enjoyable because of the scenic views that we got to experience with our friends.
We are currently working towards creating our own projects. We have been given multiple different choices of to choose from to show the significance of the local landmark that we have chosen. You will be able to see these projects at the end of the term at our celebration of learning.
