BYOD and Devices

Newlands Intermediate —

At Newlands Intermediate we strongly encourage students to bring their own device to school - known as BYOD.

Our preferred device is a Chromebook. This works well within our computer environment and is straight forward and easy for students to use. Suppliers such as Warehouse Stationery, Noel Leaming, Harvey Norman, JB Hi Fi or PB Tech often have great deals during the back to school season.

From 2025 iPads will no longer be able to be used at Newlands Intermediate, as these do not work well within our digital environment. If students are using a non-chromebook device, this must run Windows or MacOS operating systems. Opera OS is not able to be used on our school network.

All computers at school operate through the Linewize internet filtering system. Students using Chromebooks are automatically picked up within this system. Students using Windows devices must install the Linewize Connect software on their devices in order to access the internet at school. MacOS devices are not recommended and will need to have the software manually installed by our IT team.

When choosing a device for your child please consider the size and weight of the device as these should be taken home each day. A protective sleeve is also a good idea.

All students receive their own Google Account for use at school during their time at Newlands Intermediate under our student user agreement. Parents and Students complete this together at the beginning of each year. A digital copy is also available below.

Students may bring phones to school but these are kept locked away during the day for safety and are returned to students at the end of the day.
