Our Own Learning

Room 11 —

It's all happening in room 11 with netball, rhythmic gymnastics, basketball, football, dance and running.

Upskill is a session where we get to do our own learning and this term we are upskilling our physical exercise or sports skills. First, we all decided on a sport that we wanted to improve. We planned out our ideas and then got together with other people who were doing the same thing.

Next, we needed to make a set of expectations that everyone thought were easy but possible. They are to bring our PE uniform and also the equipment that we want to use. We have a first aid plan and 2 spaces in the school to go to. We met with other people doing the same thing and nominated a lead person to go to for support.  Some people needed to buddy up with others if they were people doing something that no one else was doing.  This was for dance and running and gymnastics.

We have had to sort out problems as we go like today there were so many magpies around the netball court. We looked out for them and just kept on playing but it was scary because they were going near our ball.

Katherine is doing rhythmic gymnastics and she needs to be careful with her landings because she might hurt herself.

The group doing football find communication a challenge because they have to shout at each other while they are playing and then they are all yelling. Cameron is doing running and her challenge is the weather. Noah and Josiah, who are focussing on improving their shooting in basketball, don't have enough strength yet to improve all their shooting skills. Some of us have been recovering from COVID and that meant we had to take it easy for a while.

What's working well is that we are all getting exercise. We get to have fresh air and we are getting better with our skills. If it rains we have an option to do skills research or improve our flexibility by doing a stretch or flexibility session.
