Girls Futsal Tournament
Read on to find out how well the girls did at the Wellington Futsal Tournament.
On Thursday the 8th of September there was a girls futsal tournament at the Te Rauparaha Arena in Porirua. We sent 4 teams along and there was 8 to 9 players in each team.
In total we played 7 games of 10 minutes. The games were played on half sized basketball courts that were full of lines for other sports like basketball, netball and badminton. The futsal court was marked in white and was made up of a centre and a goal at each end with a net.
Each team plays with 4 players and a goalie. We were really excited when we were standing on our positions on the court waiting for the buzzer to start. Because we had so many players, we had to sub on and off quickly.
You could hear the sounds of buzzers going off and the squeaking of shoes on the glossy wood floor. Other schools were cheering on their teams so it was really loud. The games were fast. We knew we only had 10 minutes and everyone wanted to score a goal.
Our team won 5 games and drew 2. We played really well as a team - no one hogged the ball, we listened to where others in the team wanted to play, and we all passed to each other and included everybody.
There were a few differences between normal football and futsal like the ball is harder and instead of throw ins we did kick ins. Instead of goal kicks we did goal throws.
Overall it was a really fun day. We enjoyed playing friendly matches and we all learnt something new. "It does not need to be a competition for you to have fun and team work is key."
